About Your Teacher
Holman Alvarez is a Colombian pianist, composer, and educator based in Long Island City. Trained in Cali, Bogotá, and Buenos Aires, he has released several albums as a bandleader — including 2023’s LIMINAL, awarded by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, 2024’s Hidden Objects on Sunnyside Records, and most recently Uarli’s Bones (May 2026), featuring Patricia Brennan, John Hébert, and Kate Gentile. He has performed around the world with many projects including his recent tour in Colombia (Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali) this year, and was recently interviewed by Contratiempo Jazz. He previously taught at universities in Bogotá, including Universidad Javeriana, and gave a guest talk on his career this year at Universidad del Valle in Cali (June 2026). He now teaches private piano lessons in New York City, drawing on a musical range that spans classical, jazz, salsa, Afrobeat, and free improvisation.

Schedule
Studio Lessons — Tuesdays & Fridays after 2pm, and Saturdays after 10am (by appointment) Held at Holman’s home studio in Long Island City, on a baby grand piano.
In-Home Lessons — Wednesday & Thursday Holman comes to you, within Long Island City and Astoria ( by appointment)

New students: Start with a 30-minute trial lesson ($30) to make sure it’s the right fit before enrolling.
A Note on Scheduling
As an active performing musician, Holman occasionally travels for performances throughout the year. Advance notice and makeup lesson scheduling are always provided for any affected dates.
